From Japan, I carried home ‘Karaokekan’ in my heart.
I had read about Japan being the pioneer of karaoke- a cultural phenomenon, and was eager to experience it first hand. In the vibrant nightlife of Tokyo’s Shinjuku, I encountered an 8-storey building with the unmistakable “Karaokekan” signage.
This time at the reception, I booked my time, ordered a mandatory drink, and entered an elevator that opened into a corridor resonating with music. My allotted room was a ‘private’ haven, all equipped with sound systems, microphones, lights, a table for drinks and food, and a telecom for orders.
All by myself, mike in one hand, drink in another,I had the time of my life singing to my heart’s content. The joy of singing my favourite tunes, with lights acoustics and the works, without inhibitions was unparalleled.

What sets Karaokekan experience apart is its private setting to unwind and express without public judgment. A intimate space to hangout with friends, united on the joy of singing, drinks and snacks on order.
Multi-storied, with nearly 88 private booths, Karaokekan is integral to Japanese nightlife, blending entertainment, social bonding, and self-expression. Colleagues gather for after-work socializing, making it a go-to choice for celebrations where singing takes center stage.
And I couldn’t believe myself – I went back to the Karaokekan the next day!
And I made a wish –bring home the culture of Karaokekan in India!
Music, central to our culture, resonates deeply with us. We Indians love to sing, be it on journeys or gatherings, playing Antakshari. Karaoke singing in public restaurants can be inhibiting. The private booth concept of Karaokekan seems like an enticing prospect for India.

Always wanted to do this as a business in India. Let’s do it Gunjan
Yes! Let’s do it. The Antrakshi singing game shifts to Karaokekan with all the tech, food n fun!!
